" But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not,
even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which
sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. " Thessalonians 4:13-14
Gregory Larcellus Harris was welcomed into the home of his parents Louis and Martha Lee Bond Harris Monday, March 1, 1954. He was the fifth child of their "Just a Half Dozen". He was called by several nicknames such as Greg, Pops, Poppa, Daddy, and Uncle.
Gregory was a product of the Spring Hill Community, Spring Hill Elementary School and Bartlett High School. While at Bartlett High he played on the varsity basketball team.
Gregory confessed his love for God at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Sinai MB Church, Lucy, TN under the leadership of Rev. Blacknall. He was ordained a deacon and served faithfully at Mt. Sinai.
Gregory was united in marriage to Loretta Lynn Harris and to this union no children were born. Later, he was united in marriage to Vicky Jones Harris and to that union two children were born, Crystal Nicole Harris and Gregory Larcellus Harris, II. Family was very important to Greg and he exposed his children to many opportunities.
Greg was friendly, caring, funny, the life of the party, and supportive to family and friends. He went out of his way to help his Uncle Charlie and Aunt Shirley by being their personal driver from time to time. Greg rode in a motorcycle club for a few years. He loved cars and was in the process of restoring a 1972 Mustang. Greg collected model cars and farm equipment.
Greg worked and retired from Drake Corporation as Regional Manager. He was on the board of TLC, Inc. a company started by his mother after her retirement. Gregory also served as a board member of HBC Enterprises, Inc., a business started by his brothers, Louis, Jr. Rondal, and Glenn. He later took over running the business.
Greg loved people and people loved him. He did not meet a stranger. He was full of life and loved to make people laugh. His smile was contagious.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents. Louis, Sr. and Martha Harris, grandparents, Henry and Ruka Brown Carruthers Bond, Edward and Mattie Dotstry Harris, brothers, Louis, Harris Jr., Rondal Harris, and Glenn Harris, niece, Tiffany Elise Harris, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Monday, May 23, 2022 God was pruning His garden and He noticed that Gregory was tired and weary so He plucked another flower from Louis and Martha's Half Dozen and brought Greg home to join his brothers. Rest well for the Harris Brothers are together again and we will all someday join you on the other side.
Gregory is survived by his daughter, Crystal Nicole Harris, son, Gregory Larcellus Harris, II (Cassie), both of Memphis, TN, two sisters, Cecelia Harris Williams of Charlotte, NC, Syrelda Harris O'Neal (Jimmy) of Memphis, TN, three grandchildren, Madison Harris, Sarai Harris, and Gregory Larcellus Harris III all of Memphis, TN, three aunts, Lottie Harris of Otisville, MI, Sallie Rhodes Harris and Shirley Hill Britton Bond, both of Memphis, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
